Ammonia: The underrated
Allies in the household

Why we Ammonia solution recommend as a compatible cleaner – and how to use it correctly.

What is ammonia solution?

Ammonia solution is a 10% aqueous ammonia solution (NH₃). It contains no chlorine, no aggressive acids, and no synthetic biocides. For our lipase microorganisms in lipasanF®, it is completely compatible – the cultures survive and continue to work.

Available in any hardware store and many drugstores – 1 liter costs between 1.50 and 3.00 €. The most affordable cleaning concentrate available.

What ammonium chloride can do

Degreaser

Dissolves baked-on grease films on surfaces, in ovens, and on stovetops.

Limescale removal

Acts as a base – dissolves moderate limescale deposits and soap residue in the bathroom.

Protein remover

Ideal for kitchens and canteens – protein and starch residues are efficiently broken down.

Chlorine-free

Does not damage biological cultures – 100% compatible with lipasanF®.

The right mixture

Universal cleaner recipe:

1 part ammonia + 5 parts distilled water

Example: 100 ml ammonia + 500 ml distilled water in a spray bottle – and you have a powerful all-purpose cleaner for the kitchen, bathroom, stove, extractor hood, tiles, and fixtures.

Distilled water (instead of tap water) prevents lime minerals from weakening the effectiveness. Available for ~50 cents/liter at hardware stores or discount supermarkets.

Why ammonia even supports the lipase culture

This is where it gets chemically interesting: Ammonia is an aqueous solution of ammonia (NH₃). Ammonia is a so-called nitrogen compound – and nitrogen, alongside carbon, is the most important building block for any microbial activity.

The lipase microorganisms contained in lipasanF® do not only break down fat as an energy source – they grow and multiply in the process. For growth, they require amino acids, and amino acids consist of carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and exactly this nitrogen. The nitrogen from the ammonia ends up in the wastewater stream in the very environment where the lipase culture works – and is available to it as an additional nutrient.

Important: This does not mean that you should use ammonia by the liter every day. Excessive use of any type of cleaner is unnecessary – normal, standard household application is more than sufficient to achieve the positive effect.

Safety instructions

  • Always dilute – concentrated ammonia can irritate mucous membranes
  • Good ventilation – avoid ammonia fumes with closed windows
  • Do not mix with acids – no vinegar, no citric acid, no acidic toilet cleaners. Ammonia and acid neutralize each other and produce vapors
  • Do not mix with chlorine – produces chloramine gases, harmful to health
  • Keep out of reach of children

Why we recommend it

At YNI, we do not recommend ammonia out of nostalgia – but because it meets three criteria that are important for lipasanF® users:

  1. Chlorine-free – protects your culture
  2. Genuine cleaning effect – not a marketing product, but proven chemistry
  3. Extremely affordable – €2 ammonia + €1 distilled water = 6 months of cleaner for the entire kitchen

The perfect duo

Ammonia cleans the surface. lipasanF® works in the pipe. Together they keep your kitchen and drain permanently clear – without a single chlorine product.
