Camping is the only situation where most people intuitively know: chemistry does not belong here. And yet, many campers reach for the same cleaners they use at home – because they know nothing else. This has consequences for waters, soils and the Camping-neighborhood.
The problem with chemicals at the campsite
At a campsite, this ends up Greywater (Dishwater from the kitchen and shower) either in a central sewage system or – in the case of wild camping – directly in the soil. Chemical cleaners containing chlorine, surfactants, or biocidal active ingredients cause strain in both cases:
- In the central system: The microbiology of the sewage treatment plant is disrupted, and chlorine compounds must be removed using complex processes.
- In the soil: Surfactants and biocides damage soil organisms and can leach into the groundwater.
- In campsite sanitary facilities: Chlorine cleaners kill the biological treatment process in small-scale sewage treatment plants used by many sites.
What biodegradable cleaners mean in a camping context
lipasanF® is fully biodegradable. It contains no chlorine compounds, no biocidal active ingredients, and no surfactants. The lipase microorganisms are naturally occurring organisms that do not represent foreign substances in soil or water.
For everyday camping, this means:
- Treat greywater tanks without hesitation – even if the water ends up in campsites with small-scale treatment plants
- Keep the campervan kitchen drain clear permanently without odors
- Maintain the caravan's sanitary area without aggressive chemicals
The greywater tank: the forgotten problem
Anyone who owns a caravan or motorhome is familiar with the greywater tank. It collects wastewater from the kitchen and shower. After a long weekend, it smells. After one week, it smells strongly. This is due to fats and food residues that ferment quickly when combined with heat.
Solution: Dilute 50–100 ml of lipasanF® directly into the tank drain. The bacteria break down fat and organic residues – the tank remains odor-neutral longer and is less heavily soiled during the next emptying.
Wild camping and nature conservation
In nature reserves and when wild camping, the rule is: what goes into the soil must be biologically harmless. This excludes most commercially available cleaners. In this context, lipasanF® is the sensible alternative – it leaves no harmful residues and even supports natural soil biology.
Note: Even with biological agents, dispose of wild camping greywater at least 50 meters away from bodies of water. This is a matter of good practice, not just chemistry.
Which size for camping?
Sufficient for a caravan or a small motorhome 0.5 L for an entire season. If dosed within the vehicle, you need so little that even the smallest container size lasts a long time. Store in a cool place (a refrigerator in the motorhome is sufficient) and dry – then the product is shelf-stable for up to 12 months.
