Fahrwise is an Android app that is useful while driving – not a navigation clone, but a true driver HUD for your smartphone on the dashboard.
What the app can do
Real-time speedometer, GPS quality, current speed limits from offline OSM data (Hessen, 921,000 points), hazard warnings at 500 and 250 meters. Swipeable Driving Side and Sport Side: G-force as a continuous line, stopwatch, route log with GPX export.
Driving log runs as a background service at 1 Hz – even when the screen is locked. CSV log includes speed, speed limit, GPS quality, and distance to hazard areas.
The problem it solves
Traffic lights seen too late, speed limits missed, no overview on unfamiliar routes. For drivers with color vision deficiency, there is an added challenge: reliably recognizing traffic light colors at a distance and while in motion is more difficult than one might think. The Pro function detects traffic lights via AI camera analysis in real time – without the cloud, everything processed directly on the device.
Development Status
Alpha. Dashboard v4 is running on the S25 Ultra. First real test drive (Westerbach loop): GPS with 3-meter accuracy, speed limit detection correct, hazard warning triggered. Traffic light AI recognizes objects but still requires a proper camera mount for stable long-distance color recognition.
Model: Freemium. Light (speedometer/GPS/speed limit/danger zones) free of charge. Pro (+ AI traffic light recognition) will be available via in-app purchase once Play Billing is integrated.
